Do All Religions lead to God?
Can two contradictions both be correct?
Can two contradictions both be correct?
If I were to tell you that the sun is composed mainly of Hydrogen and Helium and held together by gravity, that would contradict someone who said that the sun is a giant flashlight.
Across different religions and worldviews, there are contradictions regarding morality, natural events, the origins of the universe, God's identity, whether there is more than one God or just one, and what our relationship with this deity looks like.
If I were to say that the Jehovah's Witnesses were correct and that Islam was accurate, there would be several contradictions around the identity of God, his prophets, how to follow God, and the identity of Jesus. These contradictions cannot simply coexist and cannot be ignored, leaving us with an obligation to find the truth and to determine falsehoods along the way.
As nice as the idea that all roads lead up the same mountain sounds, in reality one worldview will claim that God loves one thing and the other worldview will claim that God abhors it and will punish those who do it.
What right does someone have to say that someone else is wrong?
What right does someone have to say that someone else is wrong?
In this day and age, where the greatest offence is disagreement, many will question the love and kindness of someone telling another that their entire belief about the world is wrong. While there are certainly those who do so with malice and pride, we must remember that we have an obligation to the truth and that to save someone from falsehood is one of the greater moral goods that we can do.
If you were in a house and a fire started in the kitchen, what would you do to those in the living room who refused to believe there was a fire? If you're like me, you would do whatever is necessary to convince the people of the fire and to drag them out if necessary. Those in the living room would see my yelling, anger, and even dragging as rude, mean, or hateful. Yet when they finally understood there was a fire, they would be grateful and see these actions as loving.
Each of these worldviews declares a heaven and hell, or reward and punishment, and it is the obligation of those who are to receive such mercy to share that mercy with others and help them come to the truth.
How do we determine which claim to truth is correct?
How do we determine which claim to truth is correct?
For the world view to be correct, they need to be:
- Consistently correct- cannot have event descriptions or prophecies be wrong or theology that contradicts
- Sufficient explanation of Origin
- Must be logically consistent with what is observed in the universe
