Yes, God is Real and Closer Than You Think!

The inevitable question everyone asks in life is if God is real and if so, what does that mean for themselves. Let's take a journey through how we know God is real, what he is like, and what that means for us.

  • We live in a physical universe
  • Our universe has order—the laws of gravity, the law of thermodynamics, and so on.
  • We know that everything that has been created has a beginning
  • We know that time moves forward

Yes, our universe shows that events occur in sequential order, meaning that time moves forward, and if time moves forward, it moves forward from a beginning.

If everything moves forward from a beginning, then there must have been a time of nothing, so at some point our physical universe did not exist.

This requires a creator who exists outside of our physical universe and is greater than our physical universe.

  • This creator would need to be all-powerful- to create everything
  • This creator would need to be all-knowing, because the creation cannot be greater than the creator
  • This creator would need to be all present- because the creator is greater than the creation
  • This creator would need to be above time itself and not bound to it
  • This creator would need a motivation

All powerful- "With men this is impossible, but with God all things are possible" Matthew 19:26b

All knowing- "Great is our Lord, and mighty in power; His understanding is infinite" Psalm 147:5

Everywhere- "The eyes of the Lord are in every place, Keeping watch on the evil and the good" Proverbs 15:3

Eternal- "The everlasting God, the LORD, the Creator of the ends of the earth, Neither faints nor is weary. His understanding is unsearchable." Isaiah 40:28b

What was God's motivation to create everything, even knowing that there would be trials and hardships in the world?

  • "Everyone who is called by My name, Whom I have created for My glory; I have formed him, yes, I have made him." Isaiah 43:7

  • "God is faithful, by whom you were called into the fellowship of His Son, Jesus Christ our Lord." 1 Corinthians 1:9

God created us to glorify him and to enjoy a relationship with him. The greatest expression of our being is to put God above all else, and the greatest fellowship we can have is with an infinite, loving God.
