What is the Trinity?

Our Triune God

We have one God that is expressed in three beings: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.

They exist in perfect unity as one and each carry a unique role that is displayed through scripture

What are the Roles?

God the Father- Leads and sets the will of God.

God the Son, also known as the Word, is the one who makes himself known and reveals God.

God the Holy Spirit- Carries out the will of God.

More on the Trinity

How can 3 be 1?

It boggles the mind that we have one God who is three yet is only 1.

This is only possible from one who is not subject to the limitations of mathematics and must be established outside of our created universe, this is a state that can exclusively be held by the creator of the Universe!

What was the Trinity doing before creation?

We never get an answer in scripture as to what God was doing before creation. We make a critical mistake by assuming that the laws of our universe apply to those outside it. This means that there was no time before creation; time was created by God before creation, so there wasn't a time before creation.

God is Love (1 John 4:16), and the Trinity perfectly expressed love and existed in perfect glory (John 17:5).

A further explanation on the beginning

Genesis 1:1

'In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. '

Genesis 1:1

While in English we would read this as a singular noun for God, the Hebrew language conveys a deeper nuance. The word used for God in Hebrew is 'ĕlōhîm, a plural noun, with the word created, bārā', being a singular verb. So a plural God completed an event that would only be able to be done by a single person.

A greater explanation of this passage

Isaiah 48:16

'“Come near to Me, hear this: I have not spoken in secret from the beginning; From the time that it was, I was there. And now the Lord God and His Spirit Have sent Me.”'

Isaiah 48:16

In this verse we have the speaker who was before the creation of the Universe, with God, and with God's spirit pointing the trinity of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

Matthew 3:16-17

'When He had been baptized, Jesus came up immediately from the water; and behold, the heavens were opened to Him, and He saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and alighting upon Him. And suddenly a voice came from heaven, saying, “This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.”'

Matthew 3:16-17

In this passage we have represented the Son of God, Jesus, God the Father, the one speaking at the end, and the Holy Spirit, descending as a dove.
